The Freak Storm 1/24/2001

Last August we were camping at Sebastian Inlet Campground on a surf trip. We left for the day and didn't return until the next afternoon. The car had broke down on us on a Sunday and it took until Monday to get it fixed. When we got back to our campsite everything was in a mess. There was a freak storm that blew through the night before and messed up everything in the campground. RV's and trailers had the shade canopies ripped off, everyone's tents were blown down. One of our tents had been blown to the other side of the campground. The other tents were still there, full of mud and water. It took us the rest of the day just to get enough stuff put back together to stay the night. The rest we just rolled up and put away to take care of later. I'm sure glad we weren't there when the storm came. What a mess. Such are the hazards of camping on the coast.
